PCI and The Open University Partner on AI-Driven Learning in Healthcare

Primary Care International (PCI) is delighted to announce a new collaboration with The Open University (OU) through a Knowledge Transfer Voucher award for 2025–26.

The project, Exploring AI-Driven Adaptive Online Learning for Global Healthcare Practitioners across Diverse Contexts, will develop and test an innovative approach to personalised digital learning. By combining OU’s expertise in inclusive, AI-enabled learning design with PCI’s real-world experience delivering training to frontline health workers in resource-limited settings, the project aims to create a prototype adaptive learning model.

This collaboration will explore how online courses can be tailored to better reflect the diverse needs of healthcare practitioners globally—enhancing engagement, accessibility, and impact.

Dr Mamsallah Faal-Omisore, Clinical Director at PCI, said:
"We are excited to be working with The Open University on this important initiative. By harnessing cutting-edge approaches to personalisation, we can strengthen the way healthcare practitioners everywhere learn, adapt, and apply vital skills. Our shared ambition is to improve training that ultimately improves care for patients across the world."

Dr Duygu Bektik, Lecturer at The Open University, said:
"We’re delighted to be working with PCI on this pioneering project. By bringing together the OU’s research into AI-enabled learning design with PCI’s expertise and reach in global health, we hope to demonstrate how adaptive approaches can make online training more inclusive, relevant, and impactful for practitioners working in diverse and challenging contexts."

The project will begin in October 2025 and will focus on developing, piloting, and evaluating a prototype that explores options for adapting PCI's learning content.
