Learn 

Non-Communicable Disease Course
NCD Foundation

 0.5 Hours
 This module provides an introduction to the key non-communicable diseases (NCDs) covered in our NCD Essentials, NCD Extension, Clinical Skills and Operations modules. In this 30-minute module, you will learn about the prevalence, risk factors, and impact of diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease (CVD), asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) on individuals and communities. You will also gain an understanding of the importance of early detection and timely management of NCDs in primary care. This module serves as a valuable resource for anyone looking to gain a broad understanding of NCDs and their impact on healthcare.

1. NCD Essentials
 7.5 Hours
 
This module provides the fundamental clinical knowledge needed to identify, diagnose, and manage NCDs in primary care. This module covers the core topics of Diabetes, Hypertension, CVD, Asthma, and COPD. The course is designed to be completed independently, allowing you to learn at your own pace and on your own schedule. You will be provided with engaging and interactive content, including case studies and assessments to test your knowledge. By the end of this module, you will have a comprehensive understanding of the core clinical skills required for managing NCDs in primary care.

2. NCD Extension
 3.5 Hours
 
This module builds upon the core clinical knowledge covered in the NCD Essentials module. This module is designed to consolidate your understanding of the identification, diagnosis and management of Diabetes, Hypertension, CVD, Asthma and COPD in primary care. The extension module includes in-depth coverage of each disease, providing you with a comprehensive understanding of the pathophysiology, diagnosis, management and prevention strategies for each NCD. Like the NCD Essentials module, the NCD Extension module is designed for independent learning, so you can work through the content at your own pace. By completing this module, you will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage patients with NCDs effectively in a primary care setting.

3. NCD Clinical Skills
 10 Hours
 This module provides an opportunity for healthcare professionals to revisit and refresh their knowledge of best practices for clinical skills required for providing good NCD care. The module aims to equip learners with the necessary skills to assess and manage patients with NCDs, including hypertension and diabetes.
Through a hands-on approach to learning, learners will have the opportunity to observe clinical skills being performed effectively and practice these skills themselves. By the end of the module, learners should feel more confident in their ability to manage patients with NCDs and provide effective care.

4. NCD Operations
 10 Hours
 This module is designed to introduce primary care clinicians to the operational systems necessary to provide good NCD care. It covers a range of topics including patient registers, call and recall systems, clinical records and registers, leadership, the role of the team, medicine and consumables management, screening, and case finding. Through this module, you will learn how to design and implement an action plan for improving NCD care in your practice.
The module is structured to allow you to work through it at your own pace and consists of interactive exercises, case studies, and practical examples. By the end of the module, you will have a solid understanding of the operational systems necessary to provide effective NCD care, and be equipped with the skills to design and implement an action plan for improving NCD care in your practice.
The NCD Operations module is essential for primary care clinicians looking to improve the quality of care they provide to patients with NCDs 

Primary Care Course
1. Digital Literacy & Virtual Consultations
 
4 Hours
 This module is designed to introduce participants to the world of telehealth and primary care. The module is aimed at individuals who are interested in understanding how virtual consultations work and what skills are required for effective virtual consultations.
The module covers different ways that patients can consult virtually with primary care, including video consultations, phone consultations, and online messaging services. Participants will learn about the benefits of virtual consultations, such as improved accessibility and reduced costs.

2. Clinical Skills for Primary Care
 
2 Hours
 This module focuses on two essential clinical skills that are utilized in most primary care consultations. The module aims to enhance the participants' knowledge and skills in prescribing and differential diagnosis to provide high-quality and safe patient care.
The module first delves into prescribing in primary care, discussing the principles of safe prescribing, common prescribing errors, and strategies to reduce medication errors. Participants will also learn about the various factors that can influence prescribing, such as patient factors, drug factors, and environmental factors. The module also covers prescription writing, prescription monitoring, and prescription review.
Next, the module explores differential diagnosis in primary care. Participants will learn about the steps involved in the differential diagnosis process, including gathering a comprehensive history, conducting a physical examination, and interpreting diagnostic tests. The module also covers the importance of considering the patient's preferences and values in the decision-making process.

3. Mental Health in Primary Care
 
8 Hours
 This module covers several important mental health topics, including anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, psychosis, disorders due to substance misuse, physical and emotional abuse, and sexual and gender-based violence. Participants will gain an understanding of each topic, its causes, symptoms, and treatment options.
The module will also explore practical strategies for screening patients who may be at increased risk of developing anxiety and depression. Participants will learn how to recognize the signs of these disorders and how to provide effective care to patients who present with these conditions. The module will also provide tips for creating a supportive environment that promotes mental health and wellbeing.

4. Paediatrics in Primary Care
 
3 Hours
 This module on covers various aspects related to growth, development, and nutrition in infants and children, as well as the management of common presentations in newborn babies and children. It is recommended to allow around three hours to complete the module, which is divided into four units. Participants will have the opportunity to take a pre-module quiz and are encouraged to take notes throughout the learning process. The four units covered in the module include Growth and Development, Nutrition, Immunisation and Newborn Care, and Common Childhood Illnesses.

5. Sexual & Reproductive Health in Primary Care
 
9 Hours
 This module is designed to equip primary care clinicians with the knowledge and skills necessary to discuss and manage sensitive sexual and reproductive health issues with patients. The module is divided into 8 units covering topics such as maternal health, family planning, sexual health, HIV, and sexual dysfunction. By completing this module, clinicians will be better equipped to assess and manage common presentations in sexual and reproductive health, as well as provide sensitive and effective care to their patients. The module is estimated to take approximately 9 hours to complete and includes a variety of learning resources such as readings, videos, and quizzes.

6. Pain Management in Primary Care
 
4 Hours
 This module focuses on the assessment and management of pain in primary care, which is one of the most common complaints. It presents a case-based approach to understanding and managing pain, with a specific focus on headache, lower back pain, and knee pain and osteoarthritis. As you work through this module, you will be encouraged to think critically about your current approach to managing pain, particularly chronic pain, and consider ways to improve patient assessment and management.
The module is divided into four units and takes approximately 4 hours to complete. Whether you are a primary care clinician or another healthcare provider working with patients experiencing pain, this module will equip you with the skills and knowledge necessary to provide effective pain management in primary care.

Cascade

1. NCD Training of Trainers
 10 Hours
 The NCD Training of Trainers module aims to equip healthcare professionals with the skills needed to train other healthcare professionals on the core clinical knowledge and operational systems required for good NCD care in primary care.
This module will build on the knowledge and skills acquired in the NCD Essentials, NCD Extension, Clinical Skills, and Operations modules. The focus will be on developing skills in facilitating adult learning, designing and delivering effective training programs, and assessing the impact of training.
Participants will have the opportunity to work through case studies and practice delivering training sessions, receiving feedback and coaching from experienced trainers. By the end of the module, participants will have developed a training program for NCD care that they can implement in their workplace or community, ensuring that the knowledge and skills they have gained are effectively disseminated to others. The module is self-paced and designed to be completed independently, with an estimated time commitment of approximately 8-10 hours.

Lead

1.  Understanding Leadership  
 3 Hours
 Module 1 is an introductory module designed to explore the concept of leadership and its importance in healthcare settings. Through this module, participants will learn about the definition of leadership and the characteristics of a good leader. They will also consider whether leadership can be learned or if it is an innate quality. The module will focus on the significance of leadership in healthcare and why it matters in providing quality care. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to identify their strengths, skills, and values as a leader, which will enable them to become more effective in their leadership roles. Overall, this module is intended to provide a strong foundation for understanding the concept of leadership and its relevance to healthcare settings.  

2. Leading Others, Team working and Followership
 3 Hours
 Module 2 focuses on followership, exploring who your followers are and how to effectively engage with them. You will consider your own role as a leader and follower, and reflect on the vision, purpose, and plan for where you are leading your team. Additionally, the module will help you identify the skills you need to improve your leadership abilities.    

3. Leadership Skills   
 3 Hours  
 Module 3 focuses on the importance of listening and questioning as key leadership skills. Learners will identify barriers to listening, reflect on their own listening skills, seek feedback, and learn how to demonstrate curiosity as a leader through questions and prompts. By the end of the module, learners will have acquired the necessary skills to become effective leaders in their respective fields.

4. Strategic Leadership and Action Planning
 3 Hours  
 Module 4 delves into strategic leadership in healthcare, equipping participants with the knowledge and skills to develop and implement effective action plans. Participants will explore the importance of strategic thinking and planning in healthcare leadership, considering factors such as organizational goals, resource allocation, and stakeholder engagement. They will learn how to analyze complex healthcare challenges, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop actionable strategies to drive positive change. By overcoming obstacles and promoting innovation, participants will be able to lead their organizations towards success and improved outcomes. This module empowers participants to evaluate the effectiveness of their leadership actions and make informed decisions to navigate the evolving healthcare landscape.
